At StarQuarry Farm we breed only one or two foals each year, each sired by the finest stallions carefully chosen from the very best German bloodlines. We travel to Germany annually to stay updated on the newest successes of Hanoverian approved stallions and their foals. Our mares are all SPS or Elite mares, each evaluated by Hanoverian judges and found to be of exceptional quality and talent, their scores ranking them in the top 1% of Hanoverian mares in the good ol' US of A..
LOOK below, NOTHING is more beautiful than mares with their foals at play!
|
In every way, we work to give our foals and young horses the very best start in life and under saddle. I love to brag, but actually I've only added a generation or so to many generations of great breeding.
THAT is what Great Mares can do!

It is impossible to overstate the role of the motherline in modern sport horse breeding.
Our sweet broodmares, SPS Withney (Wolkenstein II x Aalborg) and SPS Rose (Rotspon
x World Cup I) bring such incredible strength to our breeding equation..
Life is SOOOOO very short ~ let them help!

Well, Seance SQF has done, with enormous grace, everything we have asked
of her! She just came 3 years of age this year. She learned how to go under
saddle, got pregnant, continued heavy training, and in mid-October, we
presented her at the Hanoverian inspections. She ACED both her performance
test and her studbook inspection at the inspections, and as she is pregnant, she
is now officially and Elite Mare Candidate.
Shown at right, Seance SQF ( Sandro Hit x SPS Rose; Rotspon / World Cup I )
gazing down at the photos below; the sire of her 2011 foal: Damsey ( Dressage
Royal / Ritual ). Can't wait for this foal. When that baby hits the ground,
Seance SQF will be an Elite Hanoverian Mare!
Above, Damsey struts his stuff. We visited Hengststation Meyer in Dorum, Northern Germany in the fall
of 2009. We met Damsey, and watched him work. W-O-W. May I repeat myself? W-O-W! After
some conversations with Susanne Meyer at Hengststation Meyer and Louise Leatherdale, Damsey's
owner, we became convinced that he was a perfect match for our Seance SQF. Foal is due mid-May.
Help me think of names that begin with "D"!

Here is Finnegan SQF: our little colt champion at the AHS
Florida Inspections. He is by Fidertanz out of SPS
Withney (Wolkenstein II / Aalborg). Our Judge, Judy
Hedreen, commented OVER and OVER on the high quality
of the foals and mares at our inspection. As a result, she
ended up pinning co-champion colts AND co-champion
fillies. And GUESS WHAT?! Mr. Finnegan was one of
the colt champions! And in case you have forgotten from
the previous paragraph, our filly Bliss SQF was
co-champion filly. That sounds great, doesn't it?!
Finn now belongs to Rachel Schilling. He is her first
Hanoverian, and I am truly thrilled that he was given this
honor. My reward: a HUGE hug from Rachel after his
championship was announced!

Shameless, obnoxious bragging:
Below: Bliss SQF (Belissimo M x SPS Rose by Rotspon/World Cup I), co-champion filly at the AHS
inspections last fall. Yes, in the photo she is completely in the same stride as Finnegan SQF pictured further
below, and YES, she was indeed co-champion filly and YES!! Finn was indeed co-champion colt. We were
batting 1000. It was quite a day for us!
Since the inspections Miss Bliss has been very busy. She patrols the pasture and works very hard at keeping
her pasture mate, Finnegan SQF, in line. She grazes like a champ. She is in LOVE with the gelding next
door, and absolutely swoons when he nuzzles her. She is part beach-babe, and dozes flat out in the sandy
part of the pasture on warm, sunny afternoons. She thinks very highly of herself. I think she is related to
Scarlett O'Hara (except for the beach babe part, of course).
Fahrenheit SQF 2008 Hanoverian Stallion Fidertanz x SPS Withney ( Wolkenstein II / Aalborg )
|
March, 2011
Fahrenheit SQF wrote home! He is under saddle and herding cattle (doesn't that rhyme?) and is now
preparing for stallion inspections in the late summer. Here is the e-mail from Karen Dechant, mother of his
owner, trainer Allison Dechant:
Jill:
I'm sorry it's been so long since we've been in contact with you. I think of you and your lovely farm often,
and about how much we enjoyed the visit.
Fahrenheit went to Steamboat Springs (where Allison grew up) and was trained under saddle and learned
some ground manners from a friend of ours who now runs a working cattle ranch and also trains horses
nationally, Jason Patrick. Fahrenheit came home (Indian Hills, where Allison now trains) a perfect
somewhat large gentleman and definitely holds it over all the other dressage horses that he knows how to
herd cattle. He is still amazing to watch work and is going well. Hopefully, he will be going off to
Sacramento soon to learn his jumping and other inspection 'stuff' in preparation for his inspection in
August.
Allison and her husband are expecting a baby boy in June, and we're all more excited that we can even
believe. She claims to have timed it just right for training, showing, etc., but we suspect she had little to
do with the timing!
Your foals look amazing, and it sounds like you're in for some fun this Spring. Tell Rachel congratulations
on Finnegan, and please let us know if your travels bring you to Colorado.
Fondly,
Karen Dechant
Hi Jill !
Hope you are well ! Everything is going very well with Ria and me . Ria returned to Florida
(Jupiter) with me to train this winter, and so glad we did , as the weather was not so nice in
New York .I am working with Dr. Cesar Parra , and Ria really has been such and good girl
!!
We are here for two more weeks , and i was wondering if i could make a visit to see you
(and your horses) ? i have been thinking about a visit all winter, but have been very busy
here at the farm and do have some time to now.
Let me know if i can so i can plan a day trip .

Rick Jankura, owner of Santeria SQF, (Sandro Hit x SPS Withney by Wolkenstein II / Aalborg)
wrote to let us know of her progress. As it turns out, Ria is quite the traveler. She left here (north
Florida) to go to Rick's beautiful farm on Long Island to grow up and start under saddle. But
apparently the New York winters were a little difficult for her, so she decided to spend the 2010 -
2011 winter season in south Florida. Lucky girl! Below is Rick's update:

I have been SOOOOOO lucky recently, receiving e-mail from several of my babies who have grown up and
gone on to greater things. For example Allison Dechant sent this wonderful video of her riding Fahrenheit SQF
(Fidertanz x SPS Withney by Wolkenstein II / Aalborg) under saddle! Here is a link:
Fahrenheit SQF under saddle
I absolutely love the video. When taken, Fahrenheit ( AKA: Fritz ) had under 30 rides on him. Trot work and
walk are absolutely lovely, as is the canter. He does have a couple of OMG moments at the canter, but with
Allison's tactful riding, he gets it right back together. What a GOOOOOOD boy! And after all, he is a BABY
and allowed to have OMG moments. Frankly, I have them all the time, and I'm no baby, that is for sure.
And speaking of babies, can you tell that Allison is pregnant in the video?! She and her family are so thrilled
about this little new little one! I don't look that good and I haven't been pregnant since 1981. Life is NOT fair.

SOOO, what have we been doing for the last few months?? We have been birthing BABIES,
of course. THREE of them! Not to mention watching them grow and enjoying seeing them
learn how to play together. A typical conversation between two week old foals in the pasture:
Foal #1: Hi! You are little just like me! Wanna play?
Foal #2: How do you play? I think I wanna do it, but I don't know what it is.
Foal #1: Me neither. I think I'll go drink some milk.
Well, that was a couple of months ago, and believe me, they have solved the problem. The
horse play is in full swing every evening in the pasture.
Here they are!

Above, meet Berlioz SQF, 2011 colt by Belissimo M out of SPS Withney (Wolkenstein II / Aalborg) born April
29th. This boy is CHROMED OUT TO THE MAX. It is a little hard to see in the photo, but Mr. B. has 4
whites, with the rear ones going all the way up to his hocks. Plus that blaze! Just like Momma's.
Berlioz SQF is for sale. More information coming soon!! Photo by Sarah Espinoza.

The beautiful bay above is ForTissimo SQF, 2011 colt by For Compliment x SPS Rose (Rotspon / World Cup I ), born May 8th.
"Forte" is going to be an elegant dark bay, and this boy can MOVE. Holy Moly!!! He is such a sweetheart, and has one of the
most beautiful faces I've ever seen on a colt, or on a filly too for that matter.
ForTissimo SQF is SOLD. Congratulations to Lesley Eden!! Photo by Sarah Espinoza.

And our grand finale for the year: Desdemona SQF, my sweet little filly by Damsey out of EM Seance (Sandro Hit /
Rotspon). This is Seance's first foal, and this little thing is exquisite. She looks like an absolutely perfect china horse model.
She was small when she was born but is growing like a weed, and catching up fast with her big 'brothers'.
"Desi" is for sale: Click HERE to go to her page! Photo by Sarah Espinoza.

Well, we had a photo shoot last week! Paula (Paula C Photograpahy) drove down
from Pensacola, Florida and we got everyone out to run around and model for the
camera. Above is a teaser photo Paula sent us -- we'll get the full shoot photos soon.
CAN'T WAIT!!!

Farm News:
So, days on a breeding farm are routine most of the time. But it has occurred to me that those of you who are
considering buying one of my sweet horses might like to read about their lives both when they live with me, and
also after they have gone on to their new homes. This page and those that follow are my blog about life with my
horses.

ARE WE PROUD? YOU BETCHA we are!!! The Hanoverian judges comment every year on the very high quality of the
horses we have here in the North Central Florida area. That these three of our babies rose to the top over dozens of others, well --
wouldn't you be over the moon? Well, WE certainly are!
