Susan has been working with her weanling, Faro SQF (Fidertanz x SPS Rose by
Rotspon).  This little boy has excellent manners, leads like a champ and actually stands
politely on the cross ties as she teaches him about grooming and such.

A rainy, RAINY day at SQF.  The dogs are bored, the horses are in their stalls dozing for
the day, the babies are out in the nursery pasture getting very wet and very dirty.  So I kissed
the barn horses on the lips and spent the day overhauling the web page since it is pouring and
I can't do anything else worth while.

I am SO excited!!  Soiree (Sir Caletto x EM Wunder) has written home!  I have heard
from
SO MANY of my babies recently!  As a yearling (2005) she moved to live with Kirsten
in South Carolina.  As a baby, she was exquisite, but, WOW, look at her NOW!!

Well, I did it again.  I went to Germany to the Elite Hanoverian sale in Verden, held on
October 11th.  Rachel (the wonder-barn-manager) and her friend Jen went too.  It was a
TOTAL horse immersion week.  We looked at horses, talked about horses, shmoozed with
horses, shmoozed with horse people, and spent all that time laughing and revelling in the
wonderful atmosphere.  An arena packed to the rafters with knowledgeable horse people all
focused on the world class horses in the ring.
HEAVEN!

We strolled up and down the walking street in downtown Verden and admired the foal
statues, ate Weinerschnitzel, drank beer.  Well, you get the idea.

We drove to Celle to meet some of the most famous Hanoverian stallions on earth.  Below,
Rachel introduces herself to the great Rubenstein son: Rotspon, sire of our sweet broodmare,
SPS Rose..

O.K.  Give me a break.  I already admitted last year that I am, like, TOTALLY a groupie!

GUESS WHAT!  Con Bravo wrote home!  Since he moved to Colorado to live with
Kacy in spring 2008, he has been in training with respected trainer Allison Dechant.  Here is
her report!

"Bravo came in 3rd in the RMDS training level championship class with 69%, after two
six year olds!
(Bravo is only 4). He was high point on Saturday and Sunday, with a
74.4% and a 73.2%!

I also wanted to let you know he was qualified to go to the young horse championships
in Kentucky, with scores ranging from 7.6 to 8.0. Kacy and I decided not to take him
this year, we'll shoot for that again in his 5 and 6 year old seasons."

BRAVO, Bravo!!

Well, Graf Gunnar (Graf Gotz x EM Wunder) wrote home!  Here is Chrissie's report:
"We took him up to the New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY last weekend for our first
big horseshow.  It’s a difficult horseshow because it really is a giant fair with rides and
so much going on.  The helicopter rides even fly right over the hunter ring!  He could
have cared less about any of it..... He got good ribbons in the Adult Hunters and was
3rd in a $500 Hunter Under Saddle class they held."

Look below at his very first baby jump.  He just naturally absolutely gets it!

I am so very lucky.  This is my desk where I write this blog.  I spend my time there surrounded by
my three dogs, and looking out the window at the horses in the pasture.  The best part is when I see
some horse out there doing something destructive.  Then I leap up, blast out the door at the right, and
run at the pasture shrieking "QUIT THAT, you STUPID HORSE!!!".  It is fun.  VERY therapudic.
Above, Detente (our 2002 model: Del Piero out of Diedre's Decision) and Niki display
Detente's new career.  He started as a dressage horse, but has now decided he loves to jump.
Last time I heard from Niki she was in law school.  Here is her report:

"I have graduated and passed the bar.  I am working for a nationwide firm's office ....
and am really enjoying it.  I practice corporate law and, because we are in a smaller
market, I have time to ride two to three times a week!  I am very lucky.

I am very excited about the A/As this summer -- Detente has no problem clearing the
bigger jumps and I think he really enjoys it! "

Early March, 2009
I have recently heard from our two 2006 babies.  The theme of that year's two was "I'm moving
to a
FABULOUS vacation destination".  Balanchine (Bugatti Hilltop out of SPS Rose) moved
to Hawaii, and Darjeeling (Del Piero out of SPS Withney) moved to San Diego.  How do I get that
job?!  Both are doing great.  Plus, both are approaching three (3)
THREE years of age.  You
know what THAT means:  time very soon to start WORK!!  OMG!  Hopefully the next photos I
post of them will show Mary and Michelle on their backs.
Above, Balanchine SQF in his pasture on Mary's farm on
Oahu, Hawaii.  Yes indeedy, that would be the beautiful blue
Pacific Ocean in the background.

that because of that brutal San Diego winter, Michelle actually had to wear a long sleeved T-shirt in
two of these photos!

In every way, we work to give our foals and young horses the
very
best start in life and under saddle.  I love to brag, but actually
I've only added a generation or so to
many generations of great
breeding.

THAT is what Great Mares can do!
