Farm News:
So, days on a breeding farm are routine most of the time.  But it has occurred to me that
those of you who are considering buying one of my sweet horses might like to read about
their lives both when they live with me, and also after they have gone on to their new homes.
This page and those that follow are my blog about life with my horses.

2010
In every way, we work to give our foals and young horses the very best start in life and
under saddle.  I love to brag, but actually I've only added a generation or so to
many
generations of great breeding.

THAT is what Great Mares can do!

Santeria SQF
(Sandro Hit out of SPS Withney by Wolkenstein II) sent photos of her new life on Rick's farm.  She is
definitely not in Florida any more!  Plus, as you see below, she had her own Christmas Card!  Read Rick's report below ~
she started work before the winter snows set in on Long Island.
from Rick:

Hi Jill,

I apologize for not writing to you more often, but time just has a way of getting the best of me.  Nevertheless, it’s the holidays and
there’s a pen in my hand - so here I am (well actually it’s finger on my keyboard but that doesn’t have as nice a ring to it…).

Before the weather got too ominous, I spent a few days taking Ria to the next step.  You should know that with each new progression,
there is simply no trials or tribulations to report.  It’s all just so natural that I sometimes forget I’m teaching her.  She lunges perfect
circles and gladly shifts gears by voice commands.   Ask her to trot - she tots, ask her to wowh - she downshifts to a walks, halt and
she stops, call out a hu-yup and cantor she goes.  No whips, not screams, no bucks, no incidents. She’s simply a dream, and here trot,
my-my her trot has everything a dressage rider could wish for; and Oh boy , that hind end of hers!!WOWW!

So, progressing to a bridal, then saddle, was without incident.  Even throwing that Christmas wreath over her head for the card photo
was uneventful; although she did try to eat it.  So, before the temperature dropped to blanket status, I had my helper take the lunge-
line and I reached over the saddle for some backing .  She turned her head to be sure I wasn’t crazy, then took to her walk as usual.
It wasn’t long before I couldn’t resist and slid myself over the saddle and gently placed my feet into the stirrups.

Each day after that was another day of significant progress.  By the second day, the lunge-line was gone; she was listening to my
legs, and minding the reigns like a pro.  Needless to say, I am thrilled, to have done all this before the winter weather set in.

Have a wonderful holiday and know that your baby is in good hands.  We love each other. Ria is such a special horse!

All the best in the New Year !!! Rick

Balanchine SQF (
2006 gelding by Bugatti Hilltop x SPS Rose by Rotspon) wrote home!  He thought he was moving from
Florida to Hawaii for a perpetual vacation, but Mary has other ideas..............

from Mary:

Hi Jill,

We will get serious this spring!  but have had such a great time enjoying Mr B's early years!
We were on our way home after a short outing in the fields below our place when to our surprise, Randy just happened to be
coming home up the road with his camera!!  I LOVE this horse!!  Thought you would enjoy   :)   He gets so big when he sees
something, but is always such a gentleman.
Aloha, Mary
PS  He is wonderfully light in the hand and to the leg, esp for such a big guy.
Isn't he GORGEOUS?!!!!!!
Yes, OF COURSE I am prejudiced.

SO WHAT?

FEBRUARY 7th, 2010

A stressful day at StarQuarry that turned out to be absolutely wonderful!!!!  Allison Dechant  and her mom were in Florida to enjoy
the goings on in Wellington.  They used this opportunity to also come to our farm before they flew back to Denver.  Allison had
been here before when she and her student, Kacy, visited and bought
Con Bravo SQF (2004 gelding by Contendro x SPS Withney
by Wolkenstein II).  She says about Bravo:
"He's solid 3rd level, working on his pirouettes and some half steps! And boy can he
move! If that brain comes from Whitney I'll buy them all - WOW!"

Allison bought Fahrenheit SQF (Fidertanz x SPS Withney by Wolkenstein II) sight unseen about a year ago based on her
experiences with Bravo and Fahrenheit's
foal inspection video.  So since Fahrenheit has been mostly growing up and hanging
around for the last year, we were nervous about Allison coming to meet her horse for the first time.  They arrived and we turned
Fahrenheit out in the pasture to trot around and
HOLY COW!!!!!!  Has he got that movement or WHAT?!!!!!  Allison's passing
comment "
Boy, that hind end just keeps on coming, doesn't it".  I was SOOOO happy that he showed himself well, that silly little
boy uhhhh, silly big boy.

The only bad news: Allison is thinking about bringing Fahrenheit home to Denver in a month or two (OH, NO!!!) so she can get to
know him and think about pursuing stallion licensing for him.  As it turned out, Allison and her mom are absolutely delightful
people, and it was such fun to see them.  In my crystal ball, I see many trips to Denver in my future!

Darjeeling SQF
(Del Piero x SPS Withney by Wolkenstein II / Aalborg) is now working in San Diego.  How do I get
that job?  Michelle has started her, and is in the process of working through those complex 4 year old baby issues.  Here
is her update:

Hi Jill,

Ling just turned four last month and I wanted to send you a quick update and some pictures. First, this mare has
personality plus- she is absolutely the sweetest thing- she loves to be groomed and nuzzles you when you clean her stall.
Oh, and you definitely know when she doesn't like something. I am so impressed by her level head. You can actually see
her processing that everything will be fine.

Under saddle she is doing well. See listens to your seat very well and is a joy to ride. Canter still needs a little work to the
left though. She's working on trot poles too. I'm not sure if we'll get to show by the end of the summer, but it would be
fun to take her to a schooling show in the fall.

I hope all is well with you!
Michelle
Dear Grandma Jill,

OMG!  These 20 meter circles are sooooo
HARD!  But in the mean time, I look pretty
cute, don't I?!

Love, Ling-a-ling

HALLELUJAH!!!!  Guess who is here?!  BLISS SQF (Belissimo M out of SPS Rose by Rotspon/World
Cup I).  Born early this AM over a week early ~ go figure.  She was quite the surprise.  Miss Bliss is
absolutely
perfect, although she is still trying to figure out where the heck she is.  Is that a bucket on the
WALL???  WHAAAAT??  We saw Belissimo M in the fall of 2008 in Verden, Germany when he and 7 or 8
of his offspring were featured at the Gala Evening before the elite auction.  HOLY MOLY, they were
astounding!  Thus, now I have one of my very own right outside my window.  WELCOME, Miss Bliss!

Our second (and final) foal of the year has made his debut.  Meet
Finnegan SQF, by Fidertanz out of
SPS Withney (Wolkenstein II / Aalborg).  We saw Mr. Finn born early in the morning -- totally flipped
out because we thought we saw a HIND leg emerging first.  OH NO!  But it turned out to be paranoia
on our part, and he emerged in absolutely perfect condition.  I know where he got the boink in his trot,
but that refinement and beautiful head?  WOW.  WELCOME home, FINNEGAN!!

Habinero SQF wrote home and sent pictures!  Our little black stallion is now two years old.  Just look below
what he can do!  He can gallop thru the beautiful Florida pasture grass!!   What a champion!!!  Diane says
he has started baby school and is doing just fine, is happy and cooperative

Chris and Diane ~ just one question: you said Habinero might get to, ummm, procreate some day?!  Are you
still considering this, or at age 2 is this contributing to the delinquency of a minor?  Just wondering.

Announcing Our Breedings for 2011!
Well, Finnegan SQF ( 2010 colt by Fidertanz out of SPS Withney by Wolkenstein II ) had hit the
ground, and was my horse for about 20 minutes, but then our manager, Rachel, announced that he
now would belong to her!  Rach has such a lovely horse ( Toulouse ) coming along, working 1st and
schooling 2nd level.  But she is riding so well and has progressed so much (thank you,
Maya), she
needs a SUPER-STAR in the works, and luckily that little superstar will be FINN!  Potential 2024
Olympians, LOOK OUT!

The first two photos have arrived from this year's Hanoverian
Inspection.  Here is our little colt champion: Finnegan SQF.
He trotted his little heart out, although (as you can see in the
photo above), he was
scared to death!  The judge raved about
his elegance and movement.  "Beautiful eye...nice head, well
muscled hip....elastic uphill movement.... Nice Colt!"

CONGRATULATIONS to Rachel Schilling on the success of
her first Hanoverian.
